Instructor Iain Nicolson, has over 40 years of experience with all aspects of motoring and driving. After passing his driving test shortly after his 17th birthday, he went on to spend 12 years working in the motor trade, during which time he passed his Institute of Advanced Motorists Advanced Driving Test, and subsequently provided tuition within the IAM group scheme to help others prepare for and pass their Advanced Driving Test.
He also raced his own Formula Ford racing car (pictured right) for several years in the Scottish Formula Ford Championship, and later built his own Ford-engined Dutton kit car (below).
Deciding to pursue a new career path, Iain joined the IT department of Standard Life in Edinburgh and worked there for 23 years. He still continued his active love of all things cars and motoring by building a second Alfa Romeo-based kit car (below).
Eventually tiring of city office life, Iain decided to share his many years of driving experiences and skills with others by qualifying as a DVSA Approved Driving Instructor. After spending time working with two national driving schools he now runs Scorrybreck Driver Training, offering driving tuition throughout West Lothian and the surrounding area.
Why “Scorrybreck”? Iain Nicolson writes:
"Just off the north west coast of Scotland lies the beautiful island of Skye. To the east of the little town of Portree there is an area of land called Scorrybreck (or Scorrybreac in Gaelic) - this is the land of my forefathers, the ancestral home of the Nicolsons of Scorrybreck. It is a quiet, rural area with expansive views over Raasay and the Cuillins".
